House Homeland Security Chairman Rep. Mark Green confirmed Monday that he is reconsidering his decision to retire at the end of the this congressional session, announcing that decision earlier this month.
Green confirmed to The Hill that he is “seriously reconsidering” his decision, amid the urging of fellow Tennessee congressional Republicans.
“I am hoping Mark Green will reconsider and get back in TN7. Mark is a solid conservative, and we need him to continue his work on the border,” said Sen. Marsha Blackburn.
Green made his initial retirement announcement after his committee, then the full House impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Should Green decide to follow through on his retirement, he would be one of several Republican committee chairpersons to depart at the end of the current term. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Kay Granger have all opted against seeking reelection.
