27.4% of homeowners nationwide are considered “house poor,” spending over 30% of their income on housing costs. However, certain U.S. cities have a higher percentage of Americans living beyond their means.
Hialeah, Florida, tops the list with 59.3% of homeowners spending over 30% of their income on housing.
Other cities with high percentages include Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and Hollywood, Florida. California and Florida each have four cities in the top 10, with New York City and Honolulu also making the list.
