Iceland Volcano Erupts, Enormous Blast of Lava Shot Into Sky

Thrill-seekers ignored danger warnings last night as they ventured near the site of a massive volcano eruption in Iceland, where bubbling lava and smoke spewed into the sky.

Astonishing images, including a scene of numerous cars lining up to approach the area, depict individuals attempting to witness Mother Nature’s work up close.

The eruption commenced approximately 2.4 miles from the town of Grindavik just after 10 pm on Monday at the Sundhjuka crater on the Reykjanes peninsula. This event followed a series of earthquakes last month, prompting thousands to evacuate as the country declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the impending explosion.

Captivating footage from last night revealed Iceland’s night sky illuminated in a deep orange hue as molten rock soared into the air, creating spectacular scenes that continued into the early hours of the morning.

Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson, a scientist who flew over the site on Tuesday morning aboard a coast guard research flight, estimated that twice as much lava had already erupted compared to the entire month-long eruption on the peninsula earlier in the summer.

Gudmundsson stated that the eruption is anticipated to gradually decrease in intensity, but scientists remain uncertain about its duration. “It can be over in a week, or it could take quite a bit longer,” he remarked.
