IDF Chief Of Staff Orders Internal Probe Of Failures That Led To Hamas Oct. 7 Attack

Israeli defense officials will begin an internal investigation of the security failures that occurred during the October 7 massacre by the Hamas terrorist organization, according to The Times of Israel.

The newspaper stated that the decision not to wait until the cessation of hostilities in Gaza was made by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi.

The report noted that the inquiry is not intended to address any negligence of the government but will be narrowly tailored to examine the role that possible operational deficiencies within the military may have played. Observers have identified this strategy as necessary to avoid any conflict with the country’s elected officials.

The inquest will reportedly focus on the actions taken by the IDF’s Gaza Division, Operations Directorate, Signals Intelligence, and Southern Command.
