Iran said Sunday that enrichment of uranium continues based on a framework established by the country’s parliament.
The statement was made by Iran nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami in response to recent reports the country has slowed its 60% enrichment in an alleged deal with the United States.
“Our nuclear enrichment continues based on the strategic framework law,” Eslami said.
Earlier this month, a news report included information that Iran had “significantly” slowed its uranium enrichment efforts – toward reaching nuclear weapons grade.
Other reports in U.S. news media suggested the slowdown was part of the deal that led to Iran releasing five American prisoners into house arrest in exchange for Washington unfreezing $6 billion worth of Iranian sanctioned assets.
