Jimmy Carter’s Final Journey: State Funeral In DC Before Family Returns To Ga.

Even after serving as the 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter was not only a true humanitarian, he lived a humble, modest life living in a home that cost less than $200,000 for the past 43 years. Now the iconic American leader is being honored with a state funeral in the most powerful city in the world.

Carter’s State Funeral is set to come to an end on Thursday in Washington, D.C., and Georgia, according to the United States Capitol Police.

The last National Day of Mourning was in 2018 in honor of the late former President George H.W. Bush, who died at 94.

Thursday will mark the first time all of the living U.S. presidents will be together since that funeral.

As Carter continues to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol, public visitors can still pay their respects until 7 a.m. Then, at around 9 a.m., a departure ceremony is set to take place before the late president travels by motorcade to the Washington National Cathedral.

Expect road closures around the cathedral, as current and past U.S. officials gather to remember Carter.

The motorcade is set to arrive at the Washington National Cathedral for an arrival ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and a National Funeral Service is set to take place at 10 a.m.

Late President Carter and his family are expected to travel at 11:15 a.m. to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where they are set to return to Georgia.
