House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is again threatening to cut the FBI’s funding – this time after whistleblower testimony last week about whistleblowers testified about the retaliation they allegedly faced for questioning the agency.
“In the end, money always gets people’s attention,” Jordan said Sunday on the Fox Business Channel. “So what we’re going to have to do is say, ‘Hey, FBI, you can’t use federal tax dollars, you can’t use the American tax dollars for this kind of activity.’ We got to limit how they spend the money.”
The appropriations process is underway, and Jordan said he is working on how Congress can “limit money” from being used inappropriately. The Ohio Republican has vowed before – as recently as last month – to cut agency funding.
His comment Sunday also follow Special Counsel John Durham concluded in his final report issued last week that the FBI did not have verified intelligence or evidence when it opened a probe into former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.
