Jury selection is scheduled for January in the case of Alexandra Eckersley, daughter of Hall of Fame Cleveland pitcher Dennis Eckersley. She is accused of abandoning her child for over an hour in below-freezing temperatures after giving birth in a New Hampshire forest.
Eckersley’s lawyer claims she was unaware of the pregnancy and immediately sought help. She has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, reckless conduct, and falsifying physical evidence.
Eckersley has dealt with “severe mental illness her entire life,” according to family, and sees the infant twice a week after reportedly achieving sobriety and completing rehabilitation.
