Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is facing a primary challenger in his bid for reelection to represent California’s 20th congressional district.
David Giglio, previously a candidate in a congressional race for the state’s 13th District, is positioning himself as an “America First Republican.” His campaign website highlights his commitment to “fight alongside President Donald Trump in 2024 as he WAGES WAR against the corrupt uniparty.”
Giglio is also explicitly targeting McCarthy, who was removed from his role as Speaker on October 3rd, when eight Republicans, in conjunction with Democrats, supported a motion to vacate the Speaker’s chair. The dissenting group of Republicans expressed their dissatisfaction with McCarthy’s bipartisan agreement to fund the government at the last minute.
