GOP Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was the target of a swatting incident at her residence in Georgia on Christmas morning.
The congresswoman and local police confirmed that someone had called 911, falsely claiming that there was an armed threat at her home.
This was not the first time Greene had been the target of such an attempt.
The police department in the city of Rome, which Greene lives, was immediately informed about the purported emergency and promptly verified that the call was a hoax.
Officers were not dispatched to the congresswoman’s residence. Instead, the police identified it as a swatting attempt, an illegal act wherein a person makes a false report of a serious crime in progress in the hope of getting a SWAT team dispatched to the location.
“I was just swatted. This is like the 8th time. On Christmas with my family here. My local police are the GREATEST and shouldn’t have to deal with this,” Greene posted on social media.
Swatting is a malicious tactic whereby pranksters, vandals, or stalkers falsely report a serious crime in progress with the intention of prompting a large police response at a victim’s residence.
