Man Convicted Of Killing Cash App Founder, Ending Sordid Silicon Valley Tale

In a high-profile, nearly two-month-long trial, tech consultant Nima Momeni was found guilty of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco on April 4, 2023.

The jury determined that Momeni did not act in self-defense as his lawyers argued, when Lee was stabbed in the hip, chest and heart. Momeni was originally charged with first-degree murder, but the lesser conviction means that while the jury found that he intentionally killed Lee, he did so without premeditation.

The jury reached its decision Monday at around 3:30 p.m. after seven days of deliberation and delivered the verdict Tuesday morning.

Lee’s family said that though they wish Momeni was convicted of first-degree murder, they’re pleased with the guilty verdict.

“It’s his word versus my brothers word, which he’s not here for anybody to be able to hear those words,” Oliver Lee, Bob Lee’s brother, said to reporters as he stood beside his family.

The family believes justice was done, his brother said, especially with it being Bob Lee’s birthday on Friday.

“We’re happy that Nima Momeni will not be on the streets and no longer has the opportunity to harm anybody else in this world,” Oliver Lee said.
