Maryland School District Promotes Elementary School Gender and Sexuality Alliance Clubs

The largest school district in Maryland recently issued a memorandum commending itself for the establishment of LGBT clubs in five of its elementary schools, catering to students from kindergarten through third grade.

Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) students are given the opportunity to participate in monthly virtual meetings known as “Rainbow Clubs,” where they engage in games, listen to picture book readings, and engage in discussions regarding identity, diversity and inclusivity, as per the district’s statement.

The district emphasizes that these meetings serve as “safe and supportive spaces” for LGBTQ+ students and allies to connect and foster a sense of community, according to promotional materials from one of the schools.
