Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador encouraged Hispanics on Thursday to refrain from supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who recently announced his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
During a press conference held a day after DeSantis’ declaration, López Obrador voiced his opposition to the governor’s candidacy. DeSantis has adopted a tough stance on illegal immigration, advocating for increased border security measures, including the potential closure of the Mexico-U.S. border.
López Obrador accused DeSantis of promoting “anti-immigrant” policies and urged the Hispanic community not to vote for him.
