During their annual representative assembly meeting held from July 3 to July 6, the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers union in the United States, approved a new measure aimed at supporting LGBTQ youth.
Education Week, a prominent news organization focusing on K-12 schools, reported that the NEA’s new business item includes provisions for promoting sex-change procedures for LGBTQ students.
Under this measure, the NEA will allocate $580,000 towards addressing discrimination and violence targeting LGBTQ students and educators. The funds will be utilized to address these issues over the course of one year. Additionally, the NEA’s bargaining guidance concerning LGBTQ matters, including access to sex-changing procedures for school employees, will be updated.
