A small-town Kansas newspaper says its 98-year-old co-owner died Saturday after police raided her home and newsroom apparently related to a story on which its reporter had been working about a restaurateur.
Police officers raided her home Friday and seized her computer; and they took phones, computers and other equipment and material from the paper’s staff.
National press organizations have condemned the raids on the the Marion County Record.
The paper’s staff had been work on a tip about the restaurateur allegedly having operated a vehicle after losing her license in connection with a 2008 DUI.
The paper investigated the tip but didn’t run the story.
