Nothing To See Here: Blinken Headed To China

The State Department announced on Wednesday that Secretary of State Antony Blinken will embark on a trip to China this week to engage in discussions with senior officials in Beijing. This visit marks a significant step in the context of the increasingly tense relationship between the two countries in recent months.

According to the State Department’s statement, Secretary Blinken’s agenda includes addressing the importance of maintaining open lines of communication between the United States and China.

Secretary Blinken’s visit is notable for multiple reasons. He will be the first secretary of State to travel to China in the past five years, signifying the significance and urgency of the diplomatic engagement. Moreover, he will be the first Cabinet-level official to visit China in four years, indicating a renewed commitment to engaging with Beijing at the highest levels.
