The New York Times recently acknowledged, without much fanfare, that the number of coronavirus-related deaths may have been overcounted by approximately 30 percent.
The official death toll is likely inflated as it includes individuals who tested positive for the virus at the time of their death, even if it was not the primary cause. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that nearly one-third of the reported Covid deaths in recent times may fall into this category.
A study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases also reached similar findings.
