NYE Terror Alert: Paris Mobilizes 90K Police Officers

European officials are intensifying security measures for New Year’s Eve celebrations due to heightened fears of potential terrorist attacks, particularly in the wake of ongoing conflicts in Gaza.

France is taking extensive precautions, deploying 90,000 police officers nationwide to address the “very high terrorist threat.” In Paris alone, where more than 1.5 million people are expected to gather on the Champs-Elysees, 6,000 officers will be on duty.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin emphasized the need for a robust police and gendarmerie presence, describing it as an “extremely strong mobilization” in response to the elevated threat level. For the first time, law enforcement will use drones to enhance security measures.

Tens of thousands of firefighters and 5,000 soldiers will be deployed across the country. In the Paris metropolitan area, two helicopters will be stationed “above the neighborhoods” for increased surveillance.

The heightened security measures come in the aftermath of a recent terrorist attack in Paris, where a 24-year-old tourist was fatally stabbed by an ISIS supporter.

The incident underscored the need for enhanced security, especially with the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games. New Year’s Eve celebrations in Paris will center around the Olympic Games, featuring DJ sets, fireworks, and video projections on the iconic Arc de Triomphe.
