Open Category For Trans Swimmers To Debut At Swimming World Cup

The Berlin Swimming World Cup is set to introduce an “open category” for transgender swimmers, marking the first instance of such inclusion in an event.
This move comes after regulations had previously barred individuals from participating in women’s competitions if they sought to transition after the age of 12.
As reported by Fox News, the World Aquatics organization has stated its intention to accommodate transgender swimmers through this new category. The organization emphasized that the introduction of the “open category” aligns with its commitment to inclusivity and exploration of innovative competition categories as outlined in its Policy on Eligibility for the Men’s and Women’s Competition Categories.
