Oregon Governor Stockpiles Abortion Pills After After Trump Win

On Monday, Oregon Democratic Governor Tina Kotek claimed that though she represents all of Oregon, regardless of their political ideology, and said that she is going to stockpile the abortion drug mifepristone and signaled that she will push to keep illegal immigrants in the state.

Kotek said, “What I can tell people is, I’m going to protect our values,” and added that she is standing up for “all of Oregon[‘s]” residents as the governor. Kotek then later promised to stockpile up on the controversial abortion mifepristone, which has been linked to dangerous outcomes for girls and women.

She said, “I know that we can come together and protect what we love in our state no matter what happens at the national level,” adding that she has already started to consult with other governors, “Particularly women governors who served under the Trump administration, I have been getting advice from them, we don’t know what is coming, there is a lot of rhetoric we have to see what is actually being proposed.”

She added, “One of the things I did immediately was look at our stockpile of Mifepristone, which is a very important medication for miscarriages and other medically needed abortions.” Kotek is working to secure a new supply when the state stockpile expires in 2028.

The Democratic governor then suggested she would push back on President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda to deport illegal immigrants in the state of Oregon.

Kotek said that despite Trump vowing to use military assets to carry out mass deportations, “We are going to do what is legal, what is strategic to make sure our immigrants in Oregon are protected. They are essential to our state and I have always been a strong champion for protecting our immigrants.”
