The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 120 guests fell ill with a gastrointestinal illness while aboard the Queen Victoria ship operated by Cunard Cruise Line.
Affected guests reported symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting, indicative of a gastrointestinal illness. Crew members also experienced 15 cases of gastrointestinal illness.
The reported figures cover the period from January 22 to February 12, and the CDC clarified that they represent cumulative totals, not the number of active cases at specific ports of call or disembarkation.
Cunard, confirming the reports to FOX Business, acknowledged that a “small number of guests had reported symptoms of gastrointestinal illness on board Queen Victoria.” The cruise line activated enhanced health and safety protocols immediately to safeguard the well-being of guests and crew.
To address the situation, Cunard implemented heightened cleaning and disinfection procedures, along with isolating affected individuals from others on board. The cause of the outbreak remains unknown.
The Queen Victoria, currently on a 107-night cruise, has a capacity of hosting over 2,000 passengers, as stated by Cunard. During the January 22 to February 12 period, the CDC reported 1,824 guests on board the ship.
