An internal Pentagon review of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s secretive hospital stay in January found no one was responsible nor was anybody reprimanded for the matter.
An unclassified summary of the review shows officials concluded there was no indication of “ill intent or an attempt to obfuscate” the situation, according to ABC News.
The summary also states concerns about medical privacy and a rapidly changing situation were mostly to blame.
Austin has a procedure for prostrate cancer, then days later had to be rushed back to the hospital, where he was admitted fr an oversight stay without him having told President Biden or any other officials.
However the summary does not answer such key questions as when members of his Austin’s became aware of his condition and whether the defense secretary himself was advised to alert the White House but chose not to.
The Pentagon has reportedly provided additional classified information to Congress.
“As a learning organization, we will continue to learn and adjust,” Austin wrote in a memo to his staff.
