The Pentagon announced on Tuesday that it will deploy an additional 300 troops to the Middle East in response to a surge in attacks on U.S. military bases in Iraq and Syria. These attacks have become more frequent amid the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Hamas.
According to Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, the Pentagon’s press secretary, the newly deployed troops will provide critical support in areas such as explosive ordnance disposal and communications. They will enhance the capabilities of the forces already stationed in the region.
The deployment will fall under the jurisdiction of U.S. Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East and northeastern Africa, including Egypt.
