The ex-Capitol Hill staffer who video taped himself having sex in a Senate office building hearing room last year will not be charged, according to the Capitol Police, which investigated the matter.
The agency said Thursday there is no evidence Aidan Maese-Czeropski, a former aide for Maryland Democrat Sen. Benjamin Cardin, broke the law by filming himself having sex in the hearing room.
“After consulting with federal and local prosecutors, as well as doing a comprehensive investigation and review of possible charges, it was determined that — despite a likely violation of Congressional policy — there is currently no evidence that a crime was committed,” the agency said.
The incident occurred in December and became public after The Spectator ran a gossip piece about the incident, and The Daily Caller published censored clips of the tape, according to the newspaper Roll Call.
“Although the hearing room was not open to the public at the time, the Congressional staffer involved had access to the room,” the agency also said. “The two people of interest were not cooperative, nor were the elements of any of the possible crimes met.”
Maese-Czeropski resigned essentially immediately after the incident.
Police also said he exercised his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent “and refused to talk to us.”
