Nearly eight in 10 Americans believe the federal government is withholding information from the public about drone activity on the East Coast in the past month, according to a CBS News poll.
According to Sunday’s poll, 78% said the government knows more than it’s letting, while 22% said federal officials are telling all they know.
While the White House and federal agencies, including the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Federal Aviation Administration, say there’s no threat and dismiss some of the sightings as drones mistaken for stars, the dearth of information continues to fuel speculation as to what or who’s behind the activity.
According to the CBS News poll, 26% say the U.S. government is controlling the drones while 37% said they don’t know; 17% said they believe a foreign country is behind the drones, which has been the accusation of multiple lawmakers.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said last week that at least some are spy drones from China. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., told Newsmax on Dec. 11 that Iran is behind the mystery drones.
President Joe Biden broke his silence about the drones last week, saying there is “no sense of danger” for Americans.
