Power Outage At Baltimore Airport Leads To Massive Delays

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport experienced a power outage Monday morning, snarling inbound flight traffic and bringing security screening to a standstill as crews worked furiously to restore normal operations.

The affected areas, including the airport’s main terminal and the hourly parking garage, lost power around 8:20 a.m., BWI wrote in an update on Twitter.

Baltimore Gas and Electric told WBAL TV that there were downed “customer owned” electrical wires in the area of the airport.

By 9:30, the airport said “many inbound flights” were being diverted, and advised travelers to check with their airline for additional information.

“Power is slowly being restored to areas throughout the main terminal,” BWI wrote on X.

BWI airport is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, situated about nine miles south of downtown Baltimore and about 30 miles northeast of Washington, DC.
