President Donald Trump will talk Tuesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
They will talk about potentially closing a ceasefire deal between Russian and Ukraine that has been in the works for weeks.
“We will see if we have something to announce maybe by Tuesday,” Trump said, according to The Associated Press. “I will be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work’s been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can bring that war to an end.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the two leaders would be speaking Tuesday but didn’t say what the world leaders are set to discuss.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow last week to discuss negotiations with the war.
Ukrainian diplomats recently reached an agreement with U.S. officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to restore military aid and intelligence sharing to Ukraine in exchange for agreeing to an immediate, 30-day ceasefire deal.
