Nine Republican governors have jointly penned a letter to the NCAA, urging the organization to reconsider and amend its existing policies, which they believe to be misguided. They specifically called for measures to bar males from participating in women’s sports, contending that current policies permit male athletes to unfairly overshadow their female counterparts.
The letter, dated Tuesday, underscores concerns that these policies allow men and women to compete against each other, thereby validating male athletes potentially receiving recognition that might otherwise belong to exceptional female athletes.
As it stands, the NCAA grants each sport’s national governing body the authority to establish their own policies regarding transgender competitors.
