An American researcher was rescued Monday from a Turkish cave on Monday, more than a week after he became seriously ill while more than 3,000 feet below, according to Turkey officials.
The rescue of Mark Dickey was an international effort with crews from across Europe rushing to Morca cave in southern Turkey’s Taurus Mountains.
The 40-year-old Dickey became seriously ill on Sept. 2 with stomach bleeding. He was treated by doctors a day later by doctor who went into the cave but was still so frail rescuers had to retrieve him, making frequent stops at temporary camps along the way.
