A review of a June 2022 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that showed three deaths linked to Teslas autopilot technology found 17 deaths attributable to the so-called self-driving system.
The partial report was reviewed by the The Washington Post, which published its finding Saturday.
The review also found the autopilot technology was responsible for 736 crashes.
Highway Safety Administration spokeswoman Veronica Morales said her agency “has an active investigation into Tesla Autopilot, including Full-Self Driving” and that “all advanced driver assistance systems require the human driver to be in control and fully engaged in the driving task at all times.”
