Russian Hackers Targeted NATO Summit

According to a report by social media research firm Graphika, two separate groups of suspected Russian hackers engaged in efforts to disrupt the recent NATO summit in Vilnius by disseminating false information and counterfeit intelligence documents online.
Graphika shared its findings with POLITICO, outlining how one campaign propagated fabricated NATO press releases through imitation web pages resembling the alliance’s official site, along with counterfeit social media accounts. A second group posted online documents pertaining to the summit’s internal security protocols, asserting that these documents were sourced from the Lithuanian government.
The disinformation endeavor encompassed fabricated declarations suggesting that NATO was intending to double its defense budget, and that the alliance was contemplating assisting in the deployment of Ukrainian troops to France to address the earlier summer protests.
