White House spokesman John Kirby claimed Tuesday that it is a “foundational sacred obligation” for military leaders to ensure that service members and their families have access to abortion services.
During a White House briefing, Kirby was questioned about the Biden administration’s policy of covering the costs for military personnel and their families to travel out of state for abortion procedures and whether it was deemed crucial for military readiness.
In response, Kirby emphasized that as the U.S. military relies on volunteers, it is a fundamental responsibility to provide them and their families with the necessary support, including paid travel and time off, to access abortion services if they are stationed in states where such access is restricted.
