Second State Files 14th Amendment Challenge To Remove Trump From Ballot

A second legal challenge aimed at preventing former President Trump from appearing on the 2024 ballot has emerged, this time initiated by a liberal group seeking to employ the 14th Amendment as its basis for action in Minnesota.
Free Speech For People has filed this lawsuit in Minnesota’s Supreme Court, echoing arguments put forth by legal scholars and lawmakers. They assert that Trump’s involvement in the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol disqualifies him from running for office under the 14th Amendment.
The lawsuit cites Section 3 of the amendment, which stipulates that individuals who have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States” are ineligible to hold elected office.
