An increasing number of Senate Democrats say they would vote in favor a “motion to dismiss” the impeachment trial for Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, to bring a quick end to the issue and avoid Republican political theater.
The GOP-led House recently voted in favor on impeaching Mayorkas over what they consider his gross dereliction of duties at the southern U.S. border amid record migration into the country.
However, the leader of the Democrat-run Senate, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, has yet to say when or if he’ll proceed with the impeachment trial, following congressional procedure.
He’s also yet to say along with the motion to dismiss, which can pass without a single Senate Republican vote.
“I’d be glad to see a motion to dismiss,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., told Politico. “The Mayorkas impeachment is nothing but political theater from a Republican Party that can’t do any real legislative work.”
