Southern State Overrides Dem Governor’s Veto, Bans Child Sex-Changes

The Louisiana legislature successfully voted to override Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards’ veto of a law aimed at prohibiting medical transitioning of minors.
The law, sponsored by Republican State Representative Gabe Firment, would prevent doctors from prescribing hormone therapy and puberty blockers to minors, as well as administering gender-transition surgical procedures, as reported by NOLA. The state legislature initially passed the bill in June, but it was subsequently vetoed by Governor Edwards.
On Tuesday, the override of the governor’s veto was approved with a 75-23 vote in the State Senate. Notably, two House Republicans, Paula Davis of Baton Rouge and Joe Stagni of Kenner, were absent during the vote.
