Squad Member Faces Censure Over Calling Israel ‘Racist State’

House Republicans have initiated a move to censure Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair, for her comments last week in which she referred to Israel as a “racist state.”
This censure comes as a response to Jayapal’s statement, which she later retracted, and her subsequent vote in favor of a GOP-led resolution that affirms Israel is not a racist or apartheid state. The resolution was passed just before President Isaac Herzog of Israel addressed a joint meeting of Congress.
The censure resolution was filed on Thursday by Reps. Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Randy Weber of Texas, and Jeff Duncan of South Carolina. This action reflects the latest rebuke against Rep. Jayapal, a Democrat from Washington state.
