A college wrestler at a private Christian university in Kentucky died over the weekend after being killed by another student, according to authorities.
Josiah Kilman, 18, was pronounced dead at a hospital following a police response early Saturday at Campbellsville University in central Kentucky, as stated in a news release by city police. He was discovered unresponsive in his dormitory room, and the state will perform an autopsy.
A campus lockdown was lifted after a 21-year-old student was apprehended Saturday evening by state police following a report of a suspicious individual in a barn, both police and school officials confirmed.
He faces charges of murder and second-degree burglary, with bond set at $2 million according to court records. Authorities did not disclose specifics regarding the incident, including motive.
University President Joseph Hopkins conveyed in a statement to the campus community that Kilman, a wrestling team member from Montana, was described as a “bright light” and “a person of incredible hope,” with his faith being described as contagious. Hopkins mentioned that he had prayed on Sunday with wrestlers and coaches.
“I told them that the wrestling team is about to expand significantly as you, our staff, students, and this community, stand with them over the coming days and months,” he stated.
