Texas Gov. Abbott Signs Ban On Biological Males Competing In College Women’s Sports

On June 15, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 15, commonly referred to as the “Save Women’s Sports Act,” into law. The legislation aims to uphold the integrity of women’s sports by prohibiting biological males who identify as female from participating in women’s collegiate sports.

This new law builds upon previous legislation enacted by Governor Abbott in 2021, which prevented men and boys who identify as female in K-12 schools from joining sports teams that are not consistent with their biological sex.

With the recent signing of this bill, any intercollegiate athletic team that operates under the sponsorship or authorization of a higher education institution is prohibited from permitting biological males to compete in events designated exclusively for biological females.
