Actor Hill Harper, recognized for his role in the television series “The Good Doctor,” has declared his candidacy for Michigan’s 2024 Senate race, marking his first foray into politics.
Harper will be running as a Democrat in a crowded field of contenders seeking to fill the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who has decided not to seek re-election for a fifth term.
Distinguishing himself from the competition, Harper positions himself on the left of Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a moderate Democrat serving her third term in the House, who announced her Senate campaign in February.
