Senator Mitt Romney of Utah has declared that he will not seek re-election for a second term.
Romney cited the necessity for “a new generation of leaders” as his reason for stepping down.
If he had chosen to run again, his re-election path would have been challenging. Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts and a two-time presidential candidate, faced significant criticism from fellow Republicans due to his criticism of former President Donald Trump.
