Tijuana Mayor Moves To Military Base After Cartel Death Threats

In response to multiple death threats received, the mayor of the border city of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero, has relocated to a Mexican army installation for her personal safety.

Mayor Caballero made the announcement following the discovery of seven deceased individuals inside a pickup truck parked at a gas station in the city on Monday. One body was found wrapped in a blue blanket within the cab of the Ford F-150, while the remaining six were located in the truck bed.

Authorities also uncovered evidence of gasoline inside the vehicle, indicating an intention to set the truck on fire in an effort to destroy potential crime-related evidence. The two male occupants of the vehicle have been apprehended, with ongoing investigations aimed at determining any possible connections to criminal organizations.

During a news briefing addressing the arrests, Caballero stated, “I have received threats, so I am going to live at the base,” referring to her decision to seek shelter at the army installation.
