Two bipartisan lawmakers, Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), are demanding answers following TikTok’s acknowledgment of storing American users’ data in China.
Expressing deep concerns, the lawmakers stated, “We are extremely concerned that TikTok is storing Americans’ personal, private data within the reach of the Chinese government.”
They further noted that TikTok executives seemed to have deliberately misled Congress on multiple occasions regarding the company’s data security measures and protections for American users. The lawmakers highlighted that TikTok’s response unequivocally indicates that Americans’ data remains vulnerable to Beijing’s intrusive and far-reaching surveillance practices, despite the claims made in TikTok’s misleading public relations campaign.
