New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, the top Democrat on the chamber’s Foreign Relations Committee, on Monday expressed concerns about a reported Biden administration agreement to unfreeze $6 billion for Iran in a detainee swap.
Menendez said “one of the concerns” about negotiating for the release of Americans unjustly detained by foreign adversaries is that it encourages hostile nations to take more Americans hostage in the future.
The deal, which has been in the makings, also includes the U.S. releasing five Iran prisoners.
