
President Trump faced a slew of questions Sunday about the economic ripple effects of his tariff policy during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, including whether he worried about a looming recession for the U.S. economy.
“I hate to predict things like that,” Trump told Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” when asked if he expected a recession this year.
“There is a period of transition, because what we’re doing is very big. We’re bringing wealth back to America. That’s a big thing. And there are always periods of — it takes a little time. It takes a little time. But I think it should be great for us. I mean, I think it should be great.”
The president has also said he is weighing imposing additional sanctions on Russia to pressure the Kremlin to partake in peace negotiations. However, Trump stated earlier this week that he is having a tougher time dealing with Ukraine.
The upbeat economic outlook that awaited Trump’s return to the White House in late-January has dimmed in recent weeks – with the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.1% in February and consumer confidence falling by the most in any given month since August 2021, according to Politico. More here
