NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Monday that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has agreed to send Sweden’s NATO bid to join the member-nation treaty.
Erdogan will now reportedly send the North Atlantic Treaty Organization bid to the Turkish Parliament “as soon as possible.”
The announcement was made on the eve of a NATO summit on Tuesday in Lithuania.
Turkey has objected to Sweden’s NATO accession and held up the process since last year.
