Two JetBlue Planes Collide On Boston Runway

Early Thursday morning, two JetBlue planes collided at Boston Logan International Airport, according to a statement from the airline.

JetBlue reported that one aircraft entering a deicing pad lane made contact with another plane on a nearby lane, resulting in damage to one plane’s winglets and the other’s tail section. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, the airline confirmed.

Both aircraft involved will be taken out of service for necessary repairs. JetBlue stated that affected flights, namely JetBlue flight 777 bound for Las Vegas and JetBlue flight 551 bound for Orlando, will be operated using alternative aircraft.

JetBlue emphasized its commitment to safety and pledged to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine its cause.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) disclosed that the incident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. local time within an area of the tarmac under the airline’s control. The FAA announced its intention to launch an investigation into the matter.

Last year, the FAA unveiled plans to allocate significant funds towards initiatives aimed at mitigating near collisions at airports nationwide. The agency defines a runway incursion as any instance involving the improper presence of an aircraft, vehicle, or individual within a designated surface area intended for aircraft takeoff and landing.
