Thousands of drivers and their vehicle on whom many Americans depend for rides and food are set to go on strike Valentine’s Day to protest what they consider lower pay and unsafe working conditions.
The driver work for Uber, Lyft and DoorDash.
Rideshare Drivers United, told Reuters that Lyft and Uber drivers would turn off their apps Wednesday to protest “the significant decrease in pay we’ve all felt this winter.”
The Justice For App Workers coalition, which represents over 100,000 drivers, said they are “sick of working 80 hours a week just to make ends meet [and] being constantly scared for our safety.”
The group said its members would not be taking rides to or from airports in 10 cities, which will likely include those in Chicago, Miami, Orlando, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Tampa.
