British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Sunday called for a “sustainable cease-fire” in the Middle East.
They made their case in the Sunday Times, arguing “too many civilians have been killed” in Israel’s war on Hamas.
However, the leaders made clear that they are not calling of another, short-term ceasefire.
“We do not believe that calling right now for a general and immediate cease-fire, hoping it somehow becomes permanent, is the way forward,” the wrote. “We must do all we can to pave the way to a sustainable cease-fire, leading to a sustainable peace.”
