US Closes Embassy In Caribbean Nation Over Gunfire

The United States shuttered its embassy in Haiti on August 8th as a result of nearby gunfire.
In a statement, the U.S. State Department announced, “The Embassy is closed today. All personnel are restricted to Embassy compounds until further notice due to gunfire in the vicinity of the Embassy.”
The statement also noted, “Travel between the compounds is prohibited. Some routes to the Embassy may be impacted due to continued rapid gunfire.”
