The United States Football League (USFL) and the XFL revealed their plans to merge on Thursday.
Their joint statement stated that the merger would be contingent upon the usual regulatory clearances and, if completed, would lead to the establishment of a new league with top-tier operations, drawing from the most recent seasons of both leagues.
“This historic combination will anchor professional spring football with substantial capabilities and resources to ensure future growth and continue to enhance the development of the collective players, coaches, and staff that are coming together,” the groups said in a statement.
